I love women. Not in a lesbianic sort of way, but in that deep, sisterly 'Red Tent,' universally connected way. Women are beautiful, smart, funny, creative, tender, life-giving creatures of amazingness. They're also bitchy, judgmental, irrational, insecure and complicated. I wouldn't have it any other way...

One of the most rewarding aspects of my job are all the women I get to interact with and form relationships with over time. It's not always easy (see above), but it's worth it. Because we women really are all the same underneath our pretenses. We all want to be loved and cared for, and told we're important and beautiful. And some of the most significant people we can hear that from are not men, or husbands, or partners (although they count very much) - it's each other.

There's nothing quite like getting a compliment from another women. It's a confirmation, a feeling of being held up and supported - the 'you can be and do anything' kind of feeling. It's fuel for the soul that goes into the heart-bank to be retrieved when you're having a shitty day and still need to muddle through. In other words, 'I gotch yo back bitch!'

I find a certain freedom that I don't feel anywhere else when I'm with my girlfriends - the openness, the understanding, the trust, the 'you can say or do anything and I'll still be your friend because I get you' feeling. I love that, I need that.

I recently celebrated my second year in business for Driftwood, and I was reminded how very important all the women in my life are. I literally could not do any of it without the help and support of so many ladies on a daily basis - my Driftwood girls, my Paragon girls, customers, vendors, models, admin and marketing gurus, my mother, my mail carrier! Almost every woman I exchange with directly supports what I do, and for that I am so grateful.

So cheers ladies, raise your glasses up to your glorious selves, and to all the women in our lives that help make our worlds go round. We may not always be perfect at imbuing the 'sisterly oneness' because hey, we're bitchy, judgmental, irrational, insecure and complicated. But, never stop trying, because we're so worth it!

Hope you enjoy these photos from Driftwood's 2nd year Birthday Bash.
